Water Pollution

 Water Pollution

Where does it end?

In the forest? No!

In the hole? No!

It ends here at the wastewater treatment plant. Here you can see the plant in Mulllsjö. Unfortunately we were not allowed inside.

The Wastewater Treatment Plant

All the sewage from every house in Mullsjö comes to the wastewater treatment plant where it is purified.

If you look at the picture you can see that the sewage has got to go through five different stages to be purified.

Number one: Here they filter the sewage through a grid to get rid of all big things that people have thrown in their water closets.

Number two: In this section there is a chemical purification. They add iron sulphate that makes the phosphorus to flock, cluster and then it is easy to separate it from the water.

Number three: This is the stage where they use a biological treatment. In the biological section there are a lot of microorganisms that eats everything that is organic in the water.

Number four: Here they let the water run through a current and afterwards the particles falls down to the bottom of the basin and the water runs into the last section.

In the last section you find the same procedure as in number four and after that you can actually drink the water if you want to.

The mud that is left after the purification can be used as a fertilizer by the farmers.

Every community in Sweden must have a Wastewater treatment plant and that is because we do not want to have a lot of different dangerous things that will pollute the environment and maybe run into the ground water and then poison our lakes and our drinking water.
